Wreaths Across America

Our Chapter once again will participate in Wreaths Across America by sponsoring and laying wreaths on Veterans' graves.

Our goal this year:  make the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans Cemetery the second cemetery in the nation to display a wreath on every grave.  Currently, Arlington National Cemetery is the only cemetery in the United States in which every headstone receives a wreath.  We have joined efforts with the Ottawa-North Kent Blue Star Mothers of America MI-194 to meet this goal.

Sponsor a wreath!  Your $15 donation purchases a wreath for a volunteer to place on a grave at Grand Rapids Home for Veterans Cemetery.  For every two wreaths purchased, we receive one free, so a $30 donation purchases three wreaths for this cemetery.

The donation deadline is Thanksgiving Day, November 23.   There are two easy ways to sponsor wreaths:
1. By check: complete the sponsorship form (click HERE), print out and mail with your check and form to the address on the form.
2. By credit card: visit https://wreaths.fastport.com/donateLocation.html?page=14865 and scroll down through the "Donate Through a Group" list on the right side of the page--click on the "donate" button next to "DAR Sophie de Marsac Campau Chapter."

Then help lay the wreaths on Saturday, December 16.  Family and friends are welcome to participate as well. The program begins in the chapel.  Please dress for the weather.

Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Dinner

Last year, at Continental Congress we heard from many Vietnam veterans who shared the importance of thanking our Vietnam veterans for their service. We all know as these young men and women returned home, they sometimes were not treated with the utmost respect.

Our chapter has an opportunity to thank Vietnam veterans in our area for their service. We invite Vietnam veterans and their spouses to a free dinner at the Boat and Canoe Club from 5-7 PM.  Veterans and their spouses are free; all other guests are $5.  No RSVP needed.

We need our members' help to cook, serve and clean-up. If you have children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews who need service hours for school—we could use their help cleaning tables. Contact Regent Theresa Tuttle to volunteer. We also need your help with sponsoring the dinner. Please send donations to Treasurer Pam Freas. Checks should be made payable to our chapter.
